Terms You'll Need To Know As You Muddle Through Mid Term Election Results

Aristocracy - Rule by a small, private and elite segment of society, typified in the U.S. by the rhythmically challenged, white upper class.

Gerrymandering - Drawing the boundaries of election districts in order to favor a party or individual. Seven year old Maria Santorum, an innocent victim of gerrymandering, cries after new district lines ran over her dog Petey.

Ex Post Facto - Criminal law applied retroactively to the disadvantage of the accused. Also the name of Florida Rep. Dave Weldon's cover band, which in his own words "...caught a huge break getting this mid-term election gig. I mean we don't want to get ahead of ourselves, but people in this room, ya know, know people."

Platform - Declaration of principles and policy positions of a particular party or candidate. Democratic candidate Tim Mahoney of Florida's 16th District won easily over Rep. Mark Foley after drafting a platform of 'I don't have sex with children.'

One of the best things about moving to N. Carolina has been (beside the obvious, the beach) having roommates with DVR and cable so I can tape the daily show and watch Jon Stewart during these scandalous times.

You should write for the Daily Show. Seriously, you may have missed your calling. There are people out there that think politicians define american, without realizing its actually their own self-unaware influence that shapes the political landscape of this fair country, and there you are, an expatriot, when you could be making six figures a year, easy.

That said, I want to come visit you again (after your fast) and get smashed (if parenthood makes such allowances...that is, being an accessory to a pre-meditated drunken week).

Oh, and also, if you are going to be receiving visitors during your too-short return to the land of the walking wounded, these united states of america, let a guy know, particularly if it is over a weekend, which happens to coinincide with my two days off in a row. Kara wants to see you guys again, too, and that makes two of us. If this reandevous might become more than hypothetical, get me a holla.

your pal,
Sean

ps I hope you don't mind that I never email anyone, but simply talk to them via my internet personality.
